Alright nerds, let’s make this short and to the point….Did you really like Deadpool 2 earlier this year? Did you like The Princess Bride growing up? Would you find it fun to see Fred Savage be read a story 31 years later in his Princess Bride childhood bedroom wearing the exact same Chicago Bears jersey only this time not by his loving grandpa Peter Faulk but by Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool?

Did you enjoy Deadpool 2 and thought, I’d love to take the kiddies to see this but there are just too many F-bombs, adult themes and gratuitous violent images on screen? If you answered yes to all of these, Once Upon a Deadpool is the movie for you. It’s this year’s Deadpool 2 toned down to a PG-13 version. Sure we get some explanation of certain plot holes and character background we questioned. Sure we get some laugh out loud banter between a grown-up Fred Savage and a storytelling Deadpool. But besides that, we get a cut of a fun film now more of the superhero-loving youth can enjoy.

I’d be lying if I were to say I preferred this cut over the R rated version but the Princess Bride spoof and a touching Stan Lee tribute made it worth watching a sanitized “made for cable” cut of the film.

Is this a cash grab by the studio? Maybe. But I’m one who’s purchased the same trilogy on multiple formats with multiple editions over the years so who am I to judge? I understand fandom.

Grade: B

On December 12, Deadpool 2 is back in theaters with zero F’s given

To kick off the holiday season audiences of almost all ages will soon be able to enjoy the Merc with the Mouth’s reimagining of Deadpool 2 filtered through the prism of childlike innocence. “Fox has been asking for a PG-13 basically since the start in 2006,” Ryan Reynolds told Deadline. “I’ve said no since 2006. Now, this one time, I said ‘Yes’ on two conditions. First, a portion of the proceeds had to go to charity. Second, I wanted to kidnap Fred Savage. The second condition took some explaining…” Fred Savage will join Reynolds in new scenes for ONCE UPON A DEADPOOL in an homage to Savage’s starring role in the 1987 bedtime-story classic THE PRINCESS BRIDE. Fred remarked, “while my participation in this film was anything but voluntary, I am happy to learn that Fudge Cancer will be the beneficiary of this shameless cash grab” For every ticket sold, $1 will go to the charity Fudge Cancer – previously known as Fuck Cancer, who have graciously changed their name to be more PG-13 friendly for the 12 days of Once Upon A Deadpool’s release.
