Hulu’s newest comedy Ramy is a 10-episode half-hour comedy series written, executive produced, created by and starring Ramy Youssef. The series is a semi-fictionalized version of Ramy’s real life as a first-generation Egyptian-American navigating life in New Jersey.

Youssef explained to the New York Times that his character won’t be relatable to everyone but he hopes the show reaches those who need it, he said, “There’s this initial reaction that you have of: ‘Oh, man. I have a lot of responsibility. I have this responsibility to speak for my people.’ Then you start to make the thing and you’re like: ‘That’s an impossible goal. If I try to do that, it just won’t work.’ The more that I got into the process, I realized all I can do is really offer my singular point of view, and make sure that it’s as much me as possible, and that will speak to who we need to speak to.”

In the show, Ramy Hassan He explores dating, sex, careers, and his faith. As he discovers himself he’s torn between his conservative Muslim community and his free-spirited generation.

The bold new series is available to stream now on Hulu.
