We first got a look at Marvel’s Avengers behind closed doors at E3. A month later, SDCC audiences were treated to the same look at Square Enix’s superhero epic. Now, Marvel’s Avengers footage is here for everyone to see.

Watch as Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor battle Taskmaster and his army of mercenaries in the opening level – a Hero tutorial where players learn the unique powers of the Avengers. Additionally, the A-Day demo is playable for the first time at Gamescom 2019.

Marvel’s Avengers is a story-driven, third-person action-adventure game. Players will reassemble and rebuild their Avengers roster in an original, cinematic single-player campaign, then battle solo or online alongside friends in new missions around the globe. They can also customize Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and harness their unique powers to defend the world from escalating threats for years to come.

We previously talked about the initial messaging of the game being muddled by what Square and Marvel believed were necessary secrets. Avengers is just too ambitious of a project to be sold in the five minutes their E3 presentation allowed. Seeing the full gameplay footage explains how developer Crystal Dynamics is balancing an intimate single-player story against a multiplayer counterpart intended to add longevity to the game for years to come. They’re finally coming out and saying you’re going to start out as one then you’ll come together with other players online to take on the biggest threats. Just like the comics and the MCU.

Marvel’s Avengers will release simultaneously for the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, the Xbox One family of devices including Xbox One X, Stadia, and PC on May 15, 2020.
