This April, ABC will bring Rebel to its primetime lineup. Inspired by the life of Erin Brockovich today, Annie “Rebel” Bello is a blue-collar legal advocate without a law degree.
During today’s TCA presentation the cast and producers talked about the show.
–Rebel is executive produced by Brockovich and creator Krista Vernoff (Grey’s Anatomy, Shameless)
-Star Katey Segal will still be a part of the cast of The Connors while being the lead of Rebel.
-The main character of Annie being modeled after Erin Brockovich, according to Vernoff, has the DNA of Erin’s passion for her family as well as relentlessness to help others.
-Erin Brockovich is still very active in championing causes, much of what she’s involved in makes it to television in some way or another.
-The cast includes Sam Palladio (Nashville), Tamala Jones (9-1-1 Lone Star), Ariela Barer (Marvel’s Runaways), and Andy Garcia.
-According to Vernoff, the show is not a typical legal drama. It combines primetime sexy, friendships, family, and the legal stuff is background to these characters.
-Andy Garcia and Katey Segal’s characters in the show will share a long history familial relationship that produces some great dialogue scenes in the show. Garcia says it’s one of the rare opportunities on-screen to play a Cuban man.
Rebel premieres on ABC April 8 @ 10PM ET
