Moviegoers in Albuquerque, N.M. were treated to a surprise last night at a screening of “In The Heights” at the Century Rio 24 Plex and XD when Santa Fe Film Festival chair, NaNi Rivera, introduced, actor, producer, director, Eva Longoria.

Los Angeles-based, Latin-focused production company, Campanario Entertainment, made this event happen by buying out the theater.

On the NALIP Instagram account they also echoed the importance of this event, “Representation in the media is powerful and this film can be a stepping stone of stories that need to be told. Our time is now so let’s continue celebrating this film beyond opening weekend and amplifying the #latinxgoldopen movement.”

Longoria is also in town prepping to direct her upcoming Flamin’ Hot, a movie that tells the true-life story of Richard Montanez, a Frito Lay janitor who was inspired by his Mexican American heritage to create Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.

Importance of this film for all moviegoers

As this is opening weekend for one of the most anticipated blockbuster movies of the summer “In The Heights,” its no surprise to hear Longoria talk about seeing the play and then watching the movie screener multiple times and sharing that the movie is easy to watch, it says something and is important for Latin filmmakers, storytellers and audiences. Oh and, how fun it is to be back in movie theaters!
