Here’s what we know about what’s coming from Marvel Studios. Be sure to subscribe to our blog, YouTube and Facebook for more updates.
Ant-Man (2014)
From IMDb: Biochemist Dr. Hank Pym uses his latest discovery, a group of subatomic particles, to create a size-altering formula. Though his first self-test goes awry, he develops an instrument that helps him communicate with and control insects.
Slated to be in the movie: Johnnie Whitworth whom you may remember from CSI Miami, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Limitless, Gamer, 3:10 to Yuma, Empire Records and more.
Production team includes Kevin Feige of Marvel Studios, Nira Park and Edgar Wright of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz (who will also direct).
Ant-Man was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and first appeared in Tales to Astonish #27. Over the years a variety of characters assumed the title of Ant-Man from Henry Pym, Scott Lang, and Eric O’Grady. Scott Lang’s character became affiliated with the Fantastic Four and then a full-time member of the Avengers. Eric O’Grady was a low-level agent at S.H.I.E.L.D and was also connected to the Avengers. It will be interesting to see where this story line goes… but with the addition of Nira Park and Edgar Wright, we think there might be more comedy in this one?
Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
Unfortunately, we could not get too many details on this but we can tell you a little about who the Guardians are.
The original Guardians of the Galaxy superhero team first appeared in Marvel Super-Heroes #18 (Jan. 1969). They are seen in a lot of different Marvel titles during the following years including Marvel Two-in-One, Giant Sized Defenders, The Defenders and more.
Background: The Guardians are from the 31st century in an alternate time-line of the Marvel Universe and include Major Vance Astro, an astronaut from the 20th century Earth, Vance Astrovik, now called Justice, Martinex T’Naga, a crystalline being from Pluto; Captain Charlie-27, a soldier from Jupiter; and Yondu Udonta, a blue-skinned “noble savage” from Beta Centauri IV. These superheroes are the last of their kind and unite to save Earth’s Solar System from the Badoon. During the war against the Badoon, the Guardians recruit Starhawk and Nikki and meet up with Captain America and the Thing when they travel back in time.
Thor 2 (2013)
We’re excited to say that Thor is also another title that Marvel Studios is in production on and will of course have Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Tom Hiddleston as cast members including more from the first movie like Anthony Hopkins and Kat Dennings is rumored to be included.
If you saw the Avengers and Thor and Loki at the end, well, you can just imagine what will be in store for us in this new installment. Directing this will be Alan Taylor who has a rich IMDb listing of TV series and was involved with Game of Thrones, Mad Men, Sex in the City and others.
Ironman 3 (2013)
Rumor has it Tony Stark/Iron Man will head to China to face his toughest opponent, Mandarin (being played by Ben Kingsley). Starring will be Robert Downey Jr., Guy Pearce and Gwyneth Paltrow. Shane Black of the Lethal Weapon franchise, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Last Kiss Goodnight and The Last Boy Scout will be directing and one of the writers along with Drew Pearce, Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, Don Heck and Jack Kirby.
Who is Mandarin? Mandarin was ranked IGN’s 81st Greatest Comic Book Villain of All Time in 2009 and first appeared in Tales of Suspense #50 (February 1964) by Stan Lee. Hint: The Mandarin uses technology to achieve his goals like a teleportation machine. It will be interesting to see what the story really is here.
Captain America 2 (2014)
In this sequel to the first Captain America, Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and S.H.I.E.L.D but struggles to embrace his role in the modern world. Now, personally, I think he has very high standards we we’ve gone backwards in keeping them up but it is not the best fit but Chris Evans plays a perfect Cap and thank you Marvel for bringing him back.
We’re not quite sure about the actual story line but when Captain America was first created in 1940, he had a young side-kick, Bucky. Bucky later dies and in the course of the story line of issues of Captain America, comes back as the Winter Soldier. We’ll keep you updated as we get more details.
That’s all we have hot off the press from Comic-Con 2012 on Marvel – hope to update you with more good news soon.
