About the Film

Camp

The family-friendly film “Camp” is set for DVD release by Word Entertainment on August 27th. This inspirational film tells the story of a troubled and traumatized young boy named Eli (played by talented newcomer Miles Elliott) who is paired with an uninspired camp counselor Ken (Michael Mattera) at a summer camp for foster kids. As the two grow closer and Ken learns of the horrors Miles has faced in his short life, unconditional love takes center and an undeniable bond is forged between the unlikely pair.

“Camp” is based on the real life experiences of the film’s director, Jacob Roebuck, who served as a camp counselor for foster kids. Although inexperienced in working with children, Roebuck said that he felt a “calling” that compelled him to reach out.

“At camp we get an opportunity to give unconditional love to those who are seemingly unlovable,” Roebuck recalled of his experiences. “And, in return, we learn we have the capacity to love at a depth we never experienced before.”

How You Can Help

A portion of the proceeds from “Camp” will benefit Royal Family Kids, Inc.

Royal Family Kids, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit, is the nation’s leading network of camps for abused, neglected and abandoned children. By mobilizing local churches to sponsor a one-week camp for abused and neglected children ages 7-11 in their local community, RFKC gets caring adults involved in the lives of children who need them most. Each camp has two very simple goals: make positive childhood memories for the kids and let them experience unconditional love from an adult. Many volunteers who go to camp are inspired to become mentors, become foster parents and even adopt children who need a loving, caring family.
