This Sunday is the biggest event for the entertainment industry, the Oscars. There’s a lot of buzz about who’s going to win best picture, best actor/actress, best director and so on. We wanted to share some of the style of the Oscars with a behind the scenes look into the Oscars Greenroom created by Architectural Digest and the Governors Ball created by Sequoia Productions.

The Oscars Greenroom

Academy Award-winning actress Susan Sarandon joined David Rockwell, and architect that Architectural Digest selected to design the room and co-curate a digital masterpiece that represents 86 years of Oscars with 86 images from iconic, socially conscious films using Samsung TVs, tablets and phones.

Rockwell created this innovative art installation with Samsung technology by mounting the devices on a bronze mesh screen wall blending old with new.

Interesting fact – normally there is no “real” greenroom at the Dolby Theater, it’s created with temporary false walls just for the Oscars.

Selfie Time

While in the Greenroom, presenters can take “selfies” at the Samsung Twitter Mirror, which uses the new Galaxy Note® Pro during the show. If you want to see them, be sure to follow @TheAcademy on Twitter handle or search for the official #ArchDigestGreenroom hashtag.

Tech 411

For all you digital readers, we thought you’d want to know that the wall will have 86 Samsung devices, including 10 TVs, 21 tablets, and 55 smartphones, ranging in size from five inches to 60 inches to create the 17.5 x 8.5-foot wall.  The Samsung TVs, Galaxy Note Pro, Tab Pro, S and Note will be synced with a specially created software program from LAB at the Rockwell Group allowing the art to morph into a montage of images and then into one single image.

Colors

The romantic colors selected are a mix of deep aubergine, rich chartreuse and Italian leopard tapestry, all framed by dynamic, vertical garden walls provided by Mark’s Garden. Décor elements include an array of fabrics in jewel-toned colors, which complement the rich, earth-tone elements in the Ballroom and include olivewood floral organzas, deep velvets, Italian leopard tapestry, deep purple/bronze textures, and other subtle splashes of glint and glitter around the room provided by Resource One.

Lux Lounge EFR will be creating 462 custom pieces in a variety of deep aubergine, brilliant platinum and pear green including hand-crafted, one-of-a-kind natural pieces to match this year’s theme.

Mark’s Garden

Mark Held of MARK’S GARDEN® was selected to design the massive floral décor for the Governors Ball starting from the ballroom’s entrance which will have two 18 foot high tableaus filled with windows displaying alternating vignettes of Oscar® statues and floral arrangements.

The ballroom will feature cascading walls of vertical fresh floral gardens and live greenery gardens with thousands of blooms of roses, orchids, kale and hydrangea with ferns and exotic vines, separated by green velvet draping and accented with white birch trees.
