Here’s our Interview and scroll down for a sneak peek video for the Christmas episode…
Question: How does it feel to be nominated for a People’s Choice Award and the popularity of your show?
Joey Lawrence told us… “…It’s been really cool… We just shot our 95th episode and getting the word out there at the beginning was hard and it is growing… its now all over the world…
Nielsen Ratings
…the rating system is slowly but unlike the Nielsen Rating System… shedding the light on real people who watch the show is growing… I am getting tweets from all over the world… [The question is] how can they add up how many are watching the show? Recently I was on a flight and had to walk my four year old son down the aisle on the plane, when I was walking back to our seats I saw two people watching our show on their iPads, that was incredible to see.
Getting to 100 episodes is great for a cable network and for ABC Family to have a comedy series that works is rare, something new for them, so its fun.”
Question: You get away with a lot of things that you don’t see on network TV…
Joey Lawrence told us… “…I guess there are some people who think this isn’t edgy and they get away with things that you don’t get away with on ABC…
Edgy on “ABC Family?
…and some fans say don’t let their 8 yr olds watch as it’s a young adult show and older adults…[ABC Family might need to rebrand because they are more edgy in their content…]”
Question: Holidays are filled with traditions, this episode becomes a bit competitive over an ornament, how did this story line come about?
Joey Lawrence told us… “…essentially its our first christmas together [Mel & Joey as husband and wife] and they each have their own tree topper so they have to decide which tree toper goes on top, her star or his angel. He tells the origin of his ornament and what it means to him and then she tells her side but it goes into a crazy flashback which goes back in time to the late 1820s with a Melanie and Josiah version of our characters…and it’s hilarious…
Question: What do you like most about this special Christmas episode?
Joey Lawrence told us… “…I am a huge Christmas fan, my nickname is Mr. Christmas… it’s my favorite time of year by far, the episode was great, it was similar to how we play our characters now… with Mel playing a different role with me as the stable boy… its funny.
We shoot in front of a live audience and it was great to see their reaction.”
Question: How much fun was getting dressed in period costumes and wield a sword?
Joey Lawrence told us… “…It was fun, I like doing things like that and when we do crazy scenes like this, we take it the opposite direction of what the audience would expect…”

Question: What type of holiday traditions do you have with your family?
Joey Lawrence told us… “…We always have a big Italian Christmas at my moms and go to church on Christmas eve and bake cookies and make pizza and sing christmas carols…
On Christmas Eve, we read “The Night Before Christmas” to the girls before bed… we try to be home for the few weeks before and we don’t travel… we try to keep it as traditional as possible and be there to enjoy each other like when I was growing up, so I am continuing the same traditions with my family…”
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all of us at the Red Carpet Report Joey!
