Before we go too far, no, we don’t have any spoilers for the next episode, but we did get to speak with Karine about her character and being on the show Revenge earlier today.
Our interview follows along with a sneak peek clip of the upcoming episode along with our last red carpet interview in person with Karine.
Question: How does it feel to have such a growing fan base here in the US?
Karine Vanasse told us… “…I started my career in Canada [Karine Vanasse is an award-winning Canadian actress and producer] and then I entered a new market outside of Quebec, with my role on [ABC’s period drama] ‘Pan Am’ as a flight attendant. I did not want to be type cast as a sweet romantic character, and here I am on the same network but as a different character.
Every Sunday I speak with fans on Twitter and it has become quite intense with their feedback, I think I might have to stop reading [some] fan comments…”
Question: What characteristics do you like about the role you play in Margaux?
Karine Vanasse told us… “…one for sure that we don’t share she is very strong about her opinions, when she wants something or thinks everyone should know something, she says it. [The character] Margaux’s character traits have changed and she is becoming more like that of her family, she now follows her father;s footsteps, she has changed perspective.
More Powerful
Margaux is more powerful now. In a past episode, I was surprised at seeing how much I raised my voice, she [Margaux] was can express herself very strongly, she wants the truth and there’s a part of me that wishes I was more like my character.”
Question: Since being so filled with anger seems out of character for you, How do you prepare for your role to get revenge?
Karine Vanasse told us… “…its funny because I started seeing in the script that she [Margaux] was more vindictive and so I visited my acting coach for a 5 hour session to explore, what’s rage? what are the degrees of being mad? how can you play with it? With so much anger to portray, it needs to be fun to have variations so she is not just one level of mad.”
Question: Now that Daniel is gone, you are with child and know Emily’s secrets, what are your thoughts about your plot for revenge?
Karine Vanasse told us… “…I spoke with writers about this, Emily has her revenge and there needed to be something to create a passionate reason to retain the audience, especially those who are so vocal. This anger, it was so new for me, I have never played the villain or have gone through what Margaux has to go through – that’s the game.
Madeline’s Advice
Question: Your character dresses very chic, do you wish you had her wardrobe?
Karine Vanasse told us… “…I wish I had her wardrobe! I don’t dress like my character outside of the set.
Costumes are so important, I remember my first fitting, that is when my character came alive… Jill (M. Ohanneson, costume designer) helped create the character with me. Margaux plays with shapes, she is bold and strong unlike in my real life where I stick to the same style for a certain time… but I admire how Margaux wears the clothes!
