With so many tweets and Facebook posts and commentary happening about Caitlyn Jenner, many people who are not open to the hows and the whys are remaining closed to learning about transgendered peoples. It’s not all glitz and glamour as they many perceive, its hard and raw and can be hurtful to those involved.
Ryan Seacrest’s new series “Becoming Us” which premieres on ABC Family Monday, June 8th takes “reality” out of unscripted drama series and makes it “real” following one main family where the father is transgendered (now woman) and how the teenage son, his friends and other family members learn to cope, communicate and deal with change. “Becoming Us” will help audiences understand what a transgendered person is and hopefully they’ll find it’s just about being you.
Meet Ben and his family
The life lessons in this docu-drama follow Ben, a teenager who has to learn to have two mothers, and mourns losing his father but discovers more about himself and life than expected. It’s not glamorous, easy or fun for him, but it does show how friends and the love of your family can help you overcome any obstacle you face.
