In her film debut as the leading lady in Trainwrecked, Amy Schumer proves that women can be shameless, flawed, and be just as dirty “as men”. With the writing from Schumer herself and direction from comedic mastermind Judd Apatow (Knocked Up, This is 40), this film was sure to be a comedic success… and it was.

Trainwreck is about Amy Townsend, a successful journalist with loose morals who refuses to apologize and commit to a relationship, thanks to her non-monogamous father (Colin Quinn). She has the perfect life – great job, amazing apartment, lovely friends, and a plethora of men at her disposal! Why would she need to commit to a relationship? Everything changes when she has to interview an up-and-coming sports doctor named Aaron (Bill Hader) who completely turns her life upside down. They are instantly attracted to each other and go about to make it work as a couple – with hilarious results.

Schumer has already proven herself to be a comedic genius on her Comedy Central show ‘Inside Amy Schumer’, as well as her brilliant stand-up comedy. Schumer is able to switch the comedy button on and off throughout the film. Her comedic timing and witty comebacks remind us why she is so popular. But, she proves more than just a hilarious comedian, her role as ‘Amy’ has shown us her acting skills on an emotional level. When Amy cries, we cry.Schumer is able to manage all the emotions her character goes through – from anger to falling in love to losing love – and us invest in Amy’s love life and genuinely care about her.

Hader, known for his comedy on Saturday Night Live, has proved himself in this emotional role as the guy you’re rooting to win. His down-to-earth persona is very different than his over-the-top characters and he plays it off so well.

unexpectedly, shines as Aaron’s best friend and a cheap, clumsy version of himself. He was given the best lines and comedic beats in the film.

Overall, the film tells a hilarious story about a noncommittal girl who falls in love with a guy who changes all that. Does that sound familiar? How about every love story starring a guy. It’s about time there was a film with a woman who does what and who she wants and doesn’t feel bad about it. It’s about time there is a lead who doesn’t have to be a supermodel to take home the good guy. Trainwreck is dirty, goofy, witty, and just fun to watch. This film proves to us Amy Schumer has what it takes to take on Hollywood, and then, the world.
