HBO Documentary Films have announced today they have acquired the rights to Brian Oakes powerful documentary JIM: The James Foley Story, which tells the life, death, and legacy of journalist James Foley, who was murdered by ISIS in 2014.

The film will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in the US Documentary Competition and will debut on Saturday, February 6th on HBO.

Journalist James “Jim” Foley was kidnapped in Syria on Thanksgiving Day in 2012. Two years later, the infamous video of his execution went public, sending the world into a shock. Director and childhood friend of Foley, Brian Oakes, wanted to tell the story of Foley’s life through intimate interviews with family, friends, and fellow journalists.

“I made this film to carry on the stories that Jim needed us to know,” says director Brian Oakes. “It’s important that we understand the significant role of today’s conflict journalists and why they risk their lives to tell the world how bad it can be.”

Jim: The James Foley Story will premiere on Saturday, February 6th on HBO.
