Roomates Hannah Huston and Maya Smith of Team Pharrell were paired up against each other in the second rounds of competition for The Voice; Battle Rounds. The duo sang “Elastic Heart” by Sia.
Both girls not only worked with coach Pharrell and guest mentor P. Diddy; they also worked with each other as roomates, raising the challenge on a more personal level.
“It was really fun to sing with Maya. She brings something really new to the table.” said Hannah.
Pharrell selected Hannah Huston to continue on his team, but luckily for Maya, she was saved by coaches Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton. However, given that it was the second time coach Christina turned for Maya, the choice for Maya was clear.
“She fought for me in the blind [audition] and she also fought for me that day. So I just decided I had to go with Christina. I couldn’t let her down twice.” said Maya.
Hannah Huston, hails from Grand Island, Nebraska and currently works as a pre-school teacher. She has been pursuing music on the side by performing at local coffee shops and singing to her students everyday.
Maya Smith, is from Sylmar California and currently works at a post office while she pursues her music career. She performs regularly at a lounge in Inglewood, California.
Both girls will advance in the competition, only now on separate teams.
