Ever since the ‘This Is Us’ trailer debuted back in late May, there has been nothing but positive reception to the NBC dramedy. Ratings grew by the weeks, and fans grew even fonder of their favorite character’s relatable storylines. The series finally returns to the air for its winter TV premiere on Tuesday, January 10.

In anticipation of the remainder of the first season, we chatted with Mandy Moore after a special screening of ‘This Is Us’ at the Universal Studios lot. The singer-turned-actress discussed the challenges of her character, what film recently made her cry, and whether or not she will incorporate her own music into the show. Don’t miss what she told us during the Television Critics Association 2017 press tour!

Many times we, as fans, assume a certain scene on-screen looked so natural that it couldn’t have taken that much time or energy. Heck sometimes filmmaking is so well done, we don’t even think about the extensive effort that was put into it. Regardless of the feat, each standalone project presents its own filmmaking challenges. Moore personally reveals that while she feels pressure to give the role justice it isn’t always a walk in the park.

“I feel like every episode has its own challenges,” she exclusively told Red Carpet Report.  “Every episode is like, ‘How am I going to do this?’, which is great. It’s a dream to be able to climb this mountain and figure out how I’m going to get there. I feel like our jobs are imminently easier because of the writing. The writing is so stellar.”

The ‘This Is Us’ star is right! The writing attracts viewers every week, drawing them more and more into the lives of this All-American family whose members were all born on the same day of the year. And speaking of the fantastic writing, there was one question that couldn’t be avoided considering Moore’s track record in music: Were there ever talks of incorporating her music onto the show or writing a storyline around her musical ability?

She laughed off the question saying, “Not my music, no. But I’ll keep singing if Dan [Fogelman] keeps writing songs for me to sing. I’m happy to do that.”

Though the singer-songwriter won’t be formally taking on music for the series, she hopes to return to making music once they wrap filming in the near months.

Music or not, there’s enough for twists and turns to make a viewer stay for the long run. After all, it’s nearly impossible to watch a full episode without shedding a tear or two. That’s why it was only appropriate to ask the 32-year-old what film or show makes her cry when she’s not on set filming.

“I cry at everything. I’m sensitive,” said Moore. “But I was really moved by ’20th Century Women’. God, that was so good!”
