Director John Singleton featured in THE INTERVIEWS' first co-production with Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

In this first interview of the series with John Singleton, American film director, producer and screenwriter, the first African American director to be nominated for both an Emmy Award and Academy Award, he talks about interning for The Arsenio Hall Show, writing and directing Boyz N The Hood, and creating the new FX series, Snowfall and more.

“There’s no historical context for a person like me, coming from where I was, to make films, but I knew that that’s what I wanted to do,” says Singleton during this revealing interview. “When I was going to film school, all of the white kids wanted to be Steven Spielberg… I said, I’m going to be John Singleton.”

This series is created via a partnership with the Television Academy Foundation and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Visual History Program so these iconic figures in the entertainment industry can be captured, preserved and shared. The Television Academy Foundation will provide public access to these unique conversations on their renowned oral history website The Interviews.
