At the posh, Huntingon-Langham Hotel in Pasadena over the course the past couple weeks all the TV Broadcast Networks and Cable channels and streamers spoke to the gathered journalists about what to expect on TV this year.

Premium Cable Channels

  • Starz and Sony Pictures Television are considering spin-offs from Outlander, as the series 5th season gets a new trailer
  • Starz will air, “The Continental” a series exploring the “John Wick” universe, following the 4th film in 2021.

Streamers

  • Amazon begins production of their ‘Lord of the Rings’ show next month, and announced 13 Series Regular cast members for the Prequel series. Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, Daniel Weyma, Tom Budge, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Owain Arthur, & Nazanin Boniadi. The first season will have 8 episodes, with a second season already green lit.
  • Amazon announced a ‘Jack Reacher’ TV series, and are committed to casting a lead, closer to how the titular character is described in the book at 6’5”
  • Amazon’s “Wheel of Time” series, currently in production,

The CW

  • The CW has green lit “Superman & Lois” spinning off of “Supergirl,” starring Tyler Hoechlin & Elizabeth Tulloch, which expands Greg Berlanti’s “Arrowverse”

Fox

  • Fox has ordered “The Masked Dancer” – a segment originated on “The Ellen Show”

CBS All Access

  • Announced a new political comedy animation from Stephen Colbert
  • A docuseries from Richard Linklater
  • Remakes of old kid’s franchises
  • Teasing bringing back beloved characters from all over Star Trek history, for Season 2 of Picard

Hulu

  • FX on Hulu, while Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox presents an impasse of the Fox properties not following the same ethos of the greater Walt Disney Corporation, the FX back catalog will be available on Hulu, rather than the Disney+ app, transitioning away from the standalone “FXNow” app
  • As part of the “FX on Hulu” imprint, new series such as “Devs,” “Ms America” “A Teacher and the Old Man” will be exclusive to Hulu

AMC

  • “Dispatches from Elsewhere” a new anthology series, starring and created by Jason Segel, looks like it will be the breakout hit of 2020

  • “Better Call Saul” teased its 5th season with bringing back some beloved “Breaking Bad” characters and shortening the gap between the two shows
