Comic-Con International’s smaller convention, Wondercon, was to take place April 12-14, at the Anaheim Convention Center. Thursday, the show announced that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, they will be joining the growing list of events canceling or postponing until further notice.

On the show’s website:

To protect public health and slow the rate of transmission of COVID-19, the California Department of Public Health announced a recommendation that gatherings and events of more than 250 people should either be postponed or cancelled. Comic-Con (organizer of WonderCon) will abide by this recommendation. Therefore WonderCon Anaheim, scheduled for April 10-12, 2020 in Anaheim, California, will be postponed until a later date.  We will begin processing refunds for badge purchases in the coming days.

We continue to work closely with officials in San Diego and at this time no decision has been made regarding the rescheduling of Comic-Con slated to take place this summer; July 23-26, 2020. We urge everyone to follow the recommendations set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Preventionand your local health officials.

As of now, San Diego Comic-Con is still scheduled for late July. Officials will monitor the situation and make a decision as the event gets closer. In the meantime, recent canceled events such as Emerald City Comic Con and ACE Comic Con scramble to work with their venue to find new dates. According to inside sources within each of the events, deals will be finalized by early next week. The summer is looking to be packed as it appears Emerald City will move to August 21-23 while Wondercon could take Labor Day weekend or a mid-October date. These are all accounts from people close to each event but have not been confirmed by officials. One of the current challenges faced by rescheduled events is securing blocks of deals for hotel reservations.

With the MLB, NBA, XFL seasons canceled and many entertainment events such as AEW wrestling shifting to tapings, it looks like the last bastion of spring entertainment is WrestleMania in Tampa FL. We’ll see just how long WWE will be able to stick to their guns.
