Last week during the Avengers War Table stream, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics revealed Hawkeye would be the first post-launch character to be added to the game. A few days later a Europe retailer leak started rumors that Spider-Man would also be a post-launch character.
Today, PlayStation Blog officially confirmed that a new Crystal Dynamics take on Spider-Man would be a post-launch character for Marvel’s Avengers game.
When Spider-Man comes to our stable of heroes, we’ll be marking his debut with an in-game event that will introduce him to the wider world of Marvel’s Avengers. The event is comprised of a series of unique challenges for the hero to take on, testing his abilities, and yielding some exciting results. And like the rest of our heroes in Marvel’s Avengers, we will offer multiple cosmetic outfits and gameplay experience options, so you can make your vision of the wall crawler a reality.

Many speculated that Insomniac Games version of Spider-Man would be the one PlayStation fans would see in the game. According to the lengthy post by Crystal Dynamics, they’ve instead opted to craft a new take on the character which is a smart move since Xbox and PC players of Marvel’s Avengers may not be aware of what Insomniac has done with the character.
Marvel’s Avengers game releases on September 4, 2020. PS players can get early access to the beta beginning on August 7, 2020 by pre-ordering the game.
