The sequel to Patty Jenkins Wonder Woman film, WW 1984, is moving from October 2nd to December 25, 2020. As reported by Variety, Director Patty Jenkins added, “First and foremost let me say how much Gal and I love all our devoted Wonder Woman fans around the world, and your excitement for ‘WW84’ couldn’t make us happier or more eager for you to see the movie. Because I know how important it is to bring this movie to you on a big screen when all of us can share the experience together, I’m hoping you won’t mind waiting just a little bit longer. With the new date on Christmas Day, we can’t wait to spend the holidays with you!”

Recently Christopher Nolan’s Tenet opened in theaters allowed to operate by their counties to a domestic total of $20 million. While it’s a great number considering major markets such as LA and NY are not operating in the middle of the global pandemic, it likely gave WB pause to release any more major blockbuster films.

What’s also crucial to note is the recent Dune trailer did not include a release date. Originally the film was scheduled for December 18. Warner Bros. will likely shift the film into 2021 to avoid cannibalizing the attention from WW 1984.
