Returning to the movies has been shaky for cinema chains since the pandemic. With attendance still down in comparison to pre-pandemic levels and the amount of new releases still not at consistent levels, the Cinema Foundation is looking to help this holiday by organizing National Cinema Day on Saturday, September 3rd. Participating theaters across the United States will be selling $3 tickets to any movie in any format all day.

You’ll be able to find participating theaters on the organization’s website here. Many chains such as AMC are also offering specials such as the $5 popcorn and soda combo. Don’t expect much in the way of new releases this coming weekend but if you’re willing to see some memorable films, Jaws 3-D makes a special return, and the extended Spider-Man: No Way Home will be in theaters.

In a separate but tangential piece of news, recently the dormant theater subscription service Moivepass has begun to stir. A new version of the service is set to launch on Labor Day in select markets. This new tiered version will be priced at $10,$20, and $30 monthly with each having a set amount of credits towards movies each month. You’ll need to signup for an invite to join the service on the company’s website. From the limited amount of information available, it’s mentioned the service will work very similarly to its original version with subscribers paying for tickets at a theater by Moviepass credit card.
