The 34th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in New York on May 13th will be hosted by Harvey Guillén, a producer, Critics Choice-nominated actor, and GLAAD Award winner. Idina Menzel, a performer who has won the American Music Award, Billboard Music Award, and Tony Award, will debut a special performance during the event.

GLAAD previously announced that Maren Morris, a Grammy Award-winning country music superstar, will be honored with the Excellence in Media Award, while Jonathan Van Ness, an Emmy-nominated television personality, two-time New York Times best-selling author, comedian, and podcast host, will receive the Vito Russo Award. Both Morris and Van Ness have recently collaborated with GLAAD and other organizations to speak out against anti-LGBTQ legislation in states such as Texas and Tennessee. The New York ceremony will also reveal award recipients for LGBTQ representation in various categories, including film, TV, news, and Spanish-language media.

The event will feature special guests such as Rachel Cargle (Activist), Alyssa Edwards (RuPaul’s Drag Race), Cynthia Lee Fontaine (RuPaul’s Drag Race), Jon Stewart (The Problem with Jon Stewart), and many more. Guillén is a highly sought-after talent on both the big and small screens and is known for his roles in DreamWork’s PUSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH, FX’s WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS, and Warner Bros.’ BLUE BEETLE. He has also appeared in various TV shows and movies such as NBC’s ZOEY’S EXTRAORDINARY PLAYLIST, DC’s HARLEY QUINN, and Disney’s MICKEY MOUSE FUNHOUSE.

About the 34th Annual GLAAD Media Awards

The GLAAD Media Awards honor media for fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues. Since its inception in 1990, the GLAAD Media Awards have grown to be the most visible annual LGBTQ awards show in the world, sending powerful messages of acceptance to audiences globally.

This year, GLAAD announced 295 nominees across 33 categories including two new categories: Outstanding Podcast and Outstanding Live TV Journalism – Segment or Special. For the first time ever, the Outstanding Reality Program category was also split to nominate both reality competition series and non-competition series independently. The Outstanding Kids & Family Programming category was also split to nominate animated and live action programs independently. This year also includes ten nominees in the Outstanding Film – Wide Release category for the first time.

Earlier this year, GLAAD hosted the Los Angeles ceremony of the 34th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, announcing winners in 15 categories, including Outstanding Film – Wide Release, Outstanding New Series, Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Documentary, and Outstanding Music Artist. Christina Aguilera received the Advocate for Change Award (video here), Bad Bunny received the Vanguard Award, presented by Ricky Martin, and Jeremy Pope received the Stephen F. Kolzak Award presented by Gabrielle Union, at the star-studded ceremony at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. The evening was hosted by Emmy and Grammy nominated comedian and actress Margaret Cho, and featured special performances from FLETCHER and Orville Peck. The ceremony is available to stream on Hulu now.
