One of the most popular board game series in the world, Villainous recently expanded into George Lucas’ Star Wars universe. The game has been a critical darling as it adds the new mechanic of vehicles which let players come up with imaginative strategies to complete character objectives. A new expand-alone game brings fan favorite characters Boba Fett, Cad Bane, and the seventh sister to see who is the galaxy’s most villainous.

Star Wars Scum and Villainy adds three characters to the base game but one of the best parts of these expansions is that you don’t have to own the base Star Wars Villainous game to play it. This makes Scum and Villainy a less expensive proposition if you’re just looking to add a new game to your library.

Though the best experience is by combining these characters with the full Star Wars Villainous game. Fett in particular plays well against Darth Vaders endgame goal of having Luke Skywalker and the Emperor in the throne room to win. Boba Fett’s fate cards that don’t mess you up are good for covering up more player choices on their board than the other characters.

The other reason why Villainous is such a popular gaming property is its collectibility. Scum & Villainy does a better job than most recent Villainous launches in the figurine department. Some of the ones in the base game had the interesting touch of being crafted around iconic light sabers like the Dark Saber, the characters here don’t have that luxury and its actually better for it in the design. They are the most distinct in the Star Wars Villainous line so far.

In modern pop culture, a lot of villains have been turned to anti heroes or away from their criminal nature. Deadpool or Venom from Marvel come to mind, but Boba Fett’s Disney+ series puts him in this category. These games don’t embrace that and bring all villain characters back to the way they were introduced to audiences.

With Disney mainline and Marvel having their own editions of these games the year could potentially be more flooded with expansions. Internal competition can be a good thing but time will tell if this is the case. For now, I can confidently say Scum & Villainy is a fantastic addition to the Villainous board RPG empire.
