Voice actor Charles Martinet has been the voice of Nintendo’s iconic character Super Mario since 1991. Recently he had a cameo in Universal’s Super Mario Bros. Movie where fans instantly recognized the classic “Wahoo!”. Today Nintendo announced that Charles Martinet will be stepping away from recording the voice of their flagship character.
Martinet will step into a new role with Nintendo as “Mario Ambassador” meaning he will still make convention and trade show appearances. The creator of Mario Shigeru Miyamoto will have a special message for fans about the announcement later today.
No word yet on who will voice the legendary Mario character going forward.
