The mood was pure excitement on the 67th Annual Writers Guild Awards
red carpet. All of the news outlets lay eager to interview this years 2015 Writers Guild Award nominees and honorary award recipients and the writing stars ignited the electricity. I, with the Red Carpet Report, had a first row seat to check out these arrivals on the sizzling carpet. Although many notables, Kiera Knightly, Cheryl Hines walked the carpet, there were many faces among them that were unknown but their works unforgettable.
Writer and producer Shonda Rhimes, walked the carpet—a rare talent who is both notable and responsible for hit ABC shows like, “How to Get Away with Murder”, “Scandal” and “Grey’s Anatomy.” I overheard the talented show head telling another news outlet how special it was for her to be receiving the Paddy Chayefsky Laurel Award and to be honored by other writers.

“The Imitation Game” writer and Writers Guild Award winner, Graham Moore stopped and chatted with me about his nomination, “Nothing is more gratifying than to be nominated by my peers and other writers who know what its like to be in the trenches of being a writer for the screen.”
In the midst of the red carpet flashes Moore feels he’s lucky to be where he is today, “I wrote so many things before I wrote anything that people cared about and I learned so much about the writing process and hopefully are getting better and better.”
He gives advice to young writers, “When I was younger I would do a first draft of things and I wouldn’t ever be satisfied because first drafts of things always kind of suck and you’re like why can’t this be better? The second draft will be better and the third draft will be better and the fourth draft will be better.”
Writer and Director Charlie Siskel, nominated for best Documentary screenplay for “Finding Vivian Maier” says he finds his Writers Guild Award nomination to be an honor because he believes the best documentaries take the facts and don’t hold a mirror to them, they enhance the story and that is always his goal with every project he does.
Among all of the flashing lights one thing has proven to be consistent from these artists, they are always testing the strength of their own discipline and the limits of their creativity. Seeing the writers taking photos and being honored amongst their peers made the Writers Guild Awards an extraordinary night. I know their freshman year English professors are somewhere very proud.
