For 4/20 this year, VICELAND hosted its inaugural Weed Week Party, a 21+ cannabis-centric event at the Well Salon & Store in downtown Los Angeles (1006 S. Olive St).
They offered spots on both the VIP and General Admission lists, although honestly I never noticed a difference between the two options besides knowing in which line we were to stand. The place was packed by the time I arrived just after it opened at 7pm, so the lines moved slowly while checking for medical or recreational cards. Those who lacked a cannabis card were able to sign up for one inside at a table, for no cost but a decent wait.
The open bar poured generously and each person with a cannabis card received two tickets for the sampling booths. The Sapphire CBD Sugar cotton candy was handed out freely, and the other samples ranged from a puff on one of a variety of Hot Nife vape pens (via individually-sealed mouthpieces) to edibles from Yummi Karma and Remedy+ to High Gorgeous cannabis lotion to loosely-rolled joints from THC Design. Music from Desus Nice & The Kid Mero and Krishna Andavolu thumped through the back room and fortunately only one person seemed to overdo the consumption, requiring assistance walking. Some people just can’t do indica in public.
The fire marshal, unfortunately, had to end the event early at 9:15pm, just after I’d started eating my free street tacos from the stands the event had set up out back, but before I could check out the double-decker VICELAND bus where people were hanging out. By the time my purse was stuffed with complimentary VICELAND-branded rolling papers, mints in pill bottles, and lighters, I barely had room to throw in bags of regular chips and sample-booth edibles. Barely.
The event was overall fun and decently enough organized (except for whatever code violation may have occurred), making it a shame to have been shut down early. If VICELAND does another 4/20 event, I do recommend, but get there early.
