Red Carpet Report was lucky to be invited to the set of Young Sheldon, the number one new comedy on network television. Iain Armitage, who plays Sheldon on Young Sheldon captured the hearts of the press as he described what it’s been like to play Sheldon. He was modest and said that it’s difficult because he’s not as smart, then Raegan Revord, who plays Missy, jumped in and defended him.

During the panel discussion, it was quite clear just how supportive everyone was of each other. Jim Parsons praised Iain Armitage’s portrayal of Sheldon saying that “he understands what he’s reading as soon as he reads it”.

Although Sheldon’s character is originally introduced in The Big Bang Theory, co-creator and executive producer Chuck Lorre said they “never wanted to lean on Big Bang. The only thread is Jim’s voice.” They are taking their time with this show because there are plenty of events that need to happen in Sheldon’s life like getting a couple of PhDs before his twenties and traveling. The cast and crew even shared that there will be young people in Young Sheldon that “we might meet someday on The Big Bang Theory as adults”!

We won’t know exactly when this “crossover” will happen but we do know Young Sheldon has been renewed for a second season which Iain Armitage celebrated by “feeling super happy for everyone, and being happy for (himself), and jumping up and down a bunch”. Us too Iain, us too.

Don’t miss an all-new episode of Young Sheldon Thursday at 8:30/7:30c on CBS.
