Maria By Callas features performances, TV interviews, home movies, family photographs, private letters, and unpublished memoirs, all of which were never shown to the public before this film. The film tells the story of how Maria rose from simple beginnings in NYC to one of the most well-known opera singers of all time.
Volf truly captured the women behind the glamour. He spent 4 years researching Maria’s life, consulting family and friends to fact check and gather content. Some of the richest moments in the film are pieces of memorabilia provided by close friends and family. To bring Maria’s own words to life contemporary opera singer Joyce DiDonato voiced letters, journal entries, and quotes.
