Since last Friday’s on-screen return of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in which it appeared the icon would step into the main event spot of this year’s WrestleMania to face Universal Champion Roman Reigns, the entire world has been on the side of superstar Cody Rhodes with the 3-day trend of #WeWantCody. Wrestling fans understand that in storyline purposes Cody’s victory at the Royal Rumble premium live event on January 27 grants him the right to challenge for the title at the company’s biggest event.

Today’s WrestleMania Kickoff press event in Vegas during Super Bowl week showed just why WWE can flex, as thousands packed the T-Mobile arena just to hear some of their favorite superstars hype April’s showcase of the immortals taking place in Philadelphia. The evening was capped off by the appearance of Universal Champion Roman Reigns, World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes, and Dwayne Johnson.

With Johnson’s appearance on the Pat McAfee show earlier today, it seemed WWE was headed towards a changing of the sails from its perceived big ticket main event of Roman Reigns vs The Rock at WreslteMaina. When WWE skids they fully turn into it, as it appears that not only will we be getting Cody Vs Roman at Mania, The Rock has done a full heal turn calling Cody’s supporters “Cody crybabies” and even dropping an “F” bomb on peacock. Though by the end of the event we had not had official confirmation on what the main event on WrestleMania would be, it wasn’t until after the press event that Chief Creative Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque would confirm via X that Cody’s decision to face Roman Reigns will stand.

It was wild that WWE went into Las Vegas on Super Bowl week, did a massive talking event that drew thousands of fans, trends on social, and takes a segment of the attention away from the NFL’s darling event yet WWE did not take the opportunity to announce future WrestleMania would be coming to Vegas. It truly shows that you can have competing wrestling brands that can put out great product and even have tremendous Nielson ratings in key demos but no one can match the footprint WWE has in entertainment on a mainstream level.

WrestleMania XL will stream exclusively on Peacock April 6&7 live from Philadelphia PA.
