Argylle

The much-anticipated spy thriller “Argylle” had its world premiere in London on Wednesday, and the star-studded ensemble cast kept tight-lipped about the storyline and characters to avoid spoiling any surprises for eager audiences. Directed by Matthew Vaughn, the film features an A-list cast led by Henry Cavill, who plays the globe-trotting super spy, Agent Argylle.

Check out what the cast and filmmakers shared at the yellow carpet premiere, providing a glimpse into the excitement surrounding this action-packed cinematic experience.

Henry Cavill, in the role of Agent Argylle, described the character as an idealized version of a spy. According to Cavill, if you were to turn up all the spy tropes to the maximum, that’s who Argylle is. The film is based on novelist Elly Conway’s best-selling series of books, where life imitates art as Conway, played by Bryce Dallas Howard, and her cat Alfie become entangled in the activities of a real-life spy organization.

“Argylle” boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Bryan Cranston, Samuel L. Jackson, Dua Lipa, Sam Rockwell, John Cena, Ariana DeBose, and Sofia Boutella. Bryan Cranston described the film as a “two-hour excursion on a rollercoaster to hell and back,” promising audiences a thrilling experience filled with twists, turns, and great action sequences. Samuel L. Jackson, no stranger to keeping plots under wraps from his time in the Marvel Universe, emphasized the epic nature of the spy thriller.

British singer Dua Lipa, who made her feature film debut in “Barbie” last year, expressed gratitude to Matthew Vaughn for the opportunity to be part of “Argylle.” She praised Vaughn for his generosity in providing advice and guidance, enhancing her performance in the film.

While Hollywood stars graced the premiere, it was Claudia Schiffer’s cat, Chip, who stole the spotlight. Chip, who appears in the film as Alfie, the cat belonging to Bryce Dallas Howard’s character, garnered media attention in a custom-made argyle-patterned backpack cat carrier. The cat’s role in the movie involves saving Conway from being kidnapped after her books predict the activities of a sinister underground group.

“Argylle” is set to release globally in cinemas on January 31, with the UK release on February 1 and the US release on February 2. Additionally, the Matthew Vaughn-directed spy thriller will be available on Apple TV+ at a later date.

About Argylle

The greater the spy, the bigger the lie. From the twisted mind of Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman franchise, Kick-Ass) comes Argylle, an action comedy romantic thrill ride. Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World franchise) is Elly Conway, the reclusive author of a series of best-selling espionage novels, whose idea of bliss is a night at home with her computer and her cat, Alfie. But when the plots of Elly’s fictional books—which center on secret agent Argylle and his mission to unravel a global spy syndicate—begin to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization, quiet evenings at home become a thing of the past. Accompanied by Aiden (Oscar® winner Sam Rockwell), a cat-allergic spy, Elly (carrying Alfie in her backpack) races across the world to stay one step ahead of the killers as the line between Elly’s fictional world and her real one begins to blur.

The top-flight ensemble cast features Henry Cavill (The Witcher), John Cena (Fast X), Oscar® winner Ariana DeBose (West Side Story), Grammy-winning pop superstar Dua Lipa (Barbie), Emmy winner and Oscar® nominee Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Emmy winner and comedy icon Catherine O’Hara (Schitt’s Creek), Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service), and the legendary Samuel L. Jackson. Alfie is played by Chip, the real-life cat of supermodel Claudia Vaughn (née Schiffer). Argylle is directed and produced by Matthew Vaughn, from a screenplay by Jason Fuchs (I Still See You).

The film is produced by Matthew Vaughn, Adam Bohling (Kingsman franchise), Jason Fuchs, and David Reid (Kingsman franchise).

The executive producers are Adam Fishbach, Zygi Kamasa, Carlos Peres and Claudia Vaughn.

Apple Original Films presents, in association with MARV, a Cloudy production. Argylle is distributed by Universal Pictures.
